Manly Warringah Pest Control

FleaFleas are blood suckers, mainly feeding on mammals such as dogs, cats and possums. They can cause severe irritation to the skin and transmit disease. A major example of this is when fleas spread the bubonic plague throughout Europe in the 14th Century, killing over 25 million people.

Fleas are generally a nuisance pest though, as they can infest a home and bite the people living there, causing mild to sever skin reactions. Fleas like to live and lay their eggs in the carpet of your home, however they can live in the cracks and crevices of floorboards. Having floorboards throughout your home can be worse than carpet when it comes to fleas as they like to live in the sandy soil under your home, and as they are very capable at jumping, jump through the cracks of the floorboards. This is why any flea treatment should consist of a treatment both inside and under the house.

Flea bites usually occur around the ankles and lower legs. The irritation, which can persist for days, is due to the injection of saliva, which acts as a anti-coagulant. These bites will appear as small red spots, surrounded by a reddish halo, but seldom any swelling.
